Title: DOLL (IC IN A DOLL)
Author: Mitukazu Mihara
“Do you think a doll and a human can ever be married?”
This is just one of the thought provoking questions you’ll find in DOLL, a manga series about dolls and humans interacting with one another. Dolls are human-like androids, created to serve humans in every way possible. They can serve as a maid, a companion, an office worker, and even as a lover. And as technology develops, so are the capacities of dolls, up to the point of dolls becoming almost human.
But DOLL is not about the possible innovations of man in technology. DOLL is about human emotions and how these emotions are brought out by dolls. How humans relate themselves to creatures created by technology – creatures so human-like that associating oneself to them is no longer impossible.
Mitsukazu Mihara is regarded as one of the best Loli-goth (Lolita gothic) manga artists in Japan, captivating her fans with her detailed artwork. Her characters are always dressed up in loli-goth fashion, whether characters are normal individuals or dolls. Her other works are IC in a Sunflower, Beautiful People, R.I.P (Requiem in Phonybrian), the Embalmer, and Haunted House.
DOLL has a total of six volumes, first published by Sodensha Inc., translated and republished by TOKYOPOP. Each volume has six short stories, with each story narrated from different view points. Each story can also be read as a stand alone or a sequel to an earlier story.
