Well, there’s a lot of first’s for this year’s competition.
For the first time since the start of UAAP Cheerdance Competition, UST failed to land a spot in the top three. I have to say that their performance was great, I love the Vishnu part of their performance (the multiple hands illusion ek ek) and their yellow and orange cloth, but the group made too many mistakes. Wait, they’re the ones who did the walking pyramid right? Sheesh, my memory’s failing me. I must watch Youtube videos later tonight.
Ateneo Blue Babble Battalion! Yay! Finally, after two years of ranking fourth! Their performace was great, simple but very effective. They made no mistakes either (as far as I know). And oh, I love their skirts. The flowy, soft material they used is perfect for their broadway inspired performance. I expected (and dreaded) to see a group perform to the tune of Nobody or Michael Jackson. Ateneo did Jackson - OMG A FLOATING MOONWALK! Nifty.
FEU, FEU, FEU. The last time they won the championship was 1998. Their performance was perfect. The first thing I said when they came out to the arena was “Finally, they used gold instead of yellow for their costume” and “WTF is a chicken doing there?!” - fine, they have a sarimanok on their logo. But their sarimanok head prop just looked like some poor old chicken with yellow and green feathers. And oh, what’s up with those wings guys? I wish those winged guys made a formation to create wings for that sarimanok/chicken head. Aanyway, I still rooted for FEU after their performance. I want to say more about how flawless their performance is, but I still can’t get over the sarimanok thing.
UP. As usual, they amazed the crowds with unique stunts and pyramids. But the pep squad made major mistakes, like failing to complete a huge pyramid. My, that one was disappointing. I liked the idea of having the infamous UP Ikot jeep, which eventually transformed into a part of the UP Diliman map! Cool! Well, the UP Pep squad will take back the crown next year, right? Let’s Go UP!
Scores:
FEU - 86.1; ADMU - 83.4; UP - 83.1; UST 77.2; UE - 72.4; DLSU - 71.9; AdU - 71.8; NU - 71.
All in all, I am pleased with the results of the competition. FEU really deserved this year’s crown. Congratulations guys!

For the first time in years, our group was able to get decent seats. Some fo my friends went to Araneta early to get some good seats at Upper B. My, that “soft” seat felt strange. I’m used to sitting on cold Gen Ad “seats”.
Gerome was late for our Monumento meet-up (he said “let’s meet up at 9am.” He arrived 10:45, damn!). So when we got there, Fatz and the others were already inside, leaving me with Bernard waiting for his ticket and a 1.5L C2 that I purposely bought for everyone. Bernard and I had to finish drinking the bottle in 5 minutes since food bought outside Araneta is not allowed in the venue (I think I had at least a liter of C2 - which made me feel sick).
We got several UP ‘items’ that day - there were some groups that donated enough UP placards (yay! everyone got placards!), there were cardboard fans printed with UP Pep Squad on one side and I heart Maybelline New York on the other. There were flags as well, but I didn’t get one.
Bernard finally got a FEU shirt. Yay! I wanted to buy a UP shirt, but the booth selling them were on the other side of the venue. Yeah, I was too lazy to go there.
What else, hmmm… We went to SM North for lunch/dinner (BK’s angry whopper was nice), then Bernard and I stroled around the mall, bought a graphite pencil and a charcoal stick (drawing, yay!), played Dance Maniax and Paraparadise, then went home.
Back to work!
